At some point in the mid-1980's I started playing two records at the same time to help lubricate the collage and drawing workflow. I found this practice of song collage allowed openings in the ensuing mess for amazing sonic moments. Recordings were made, along with the emergence of a musical alter ego, DJ Spooky Powers. Using disks and tape, in pre-computer days, was much like making paper collage with their excellent primitive constraints. These eventually became digital mixes, analogous in their expanded technical possibilities to photoshop collages.
